Albacore are also known as Long Finned Tuna and Albies. The albacore’s body is dark blue to almost black on the top and back progressing to a lighter blue on the flanks fading to whitish belly area. Also a light blue iridescent band may also be noticeable running along the middle of the body.
The distinguishing features of the Albacore are the long strap like pectoral fins which are the longest of all tuna species often as far back as the second dorsal fin and white bordering on the tail fin which is unique to the Albacore. Albacore have a solid compressed build and can attain weights up to 30kg or more however they are most commonly caught at around the 20kg mark.
