The Rainbow Trout is also known as Rainbow, Steelhead Trout and Sea Trout colour varies on location with the upper body being dark olive green to bluish with a profusion of spots around the head along the back and on the dorsals and tail fin. The spotting continues down the flanks can be small irregular shaped markings. The Rainbow Trout have pinkish markings on the gill covers and down the flanks along the lateral line this colouration will be more intense when spawning. With the belly area being a silvery white colour. Most commonly caught by anglers up to 4 kg.

Distribution
Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia with self maintaining populations occurring in NSW, VIC and TAS.
