Fishing Logan and Albert Rivers (Beenleigh, Eagleby, Loganholme)

Logan City Council encourages fishing from the pontoons in its parks along both rivers. It also asks people not to fish in urban creeks and park lakes, because rain washes pollution into them. The City of Gold Coast says the Yatala fishing platform on the Albert River can turn up bream, mud crabs, flathead and trevally, with whiting, mangrove jack and sharks on summer nights.

Marine park: The Moreton Bay Marine Park stops near the Logan mouth, at about longitude 153°19.5' E. Upstream of that, including all the spots on this page, you are outside the marine park. Queensland fishing rules still apply.

Tidal or fresh? Most of this water is tidal. Queensland counts water as tidal if it has tidal ebb and flow, mangroves, or salty or brackish water. Further up, the rivers turn fresh and freshwater rules apply. We could not find an official tidal limit for these rivers, so if you are not sure, follow the tidal rules. They are the stricter ones for bass.

Know the rules (Queensland, checked 21 Oct 2026): Yellowfin bream 25cm minimum, 30 combined with tarwhine and pikey bream. Dusky flathead 40cm to 75cm, 5. Sand whiting 23cm minimum, 30 combined. Mangrove jack 35cm minimum, 5. Trevally no size limit, 20 combined. Mud crab 15cm minimum, 7 per person or 14 per boat with 2 or more people on board, and no females. Australian bass 30cm minimum, 2, and closed in all tidal waters from 1 June to 31 August. Spearfishing is not allowed in fresh water.

Closed areas upstream: No fishing at all from 100m above to 200m below South Maclean Weir and Cedar Grove Weir on the Logan. No line fishing from 1 August to 31 October in the Albert River upstream of where Canungra Creek joins it (Canungra Creek included).

White spot bait rule: These waters are inside Queensland's white spot disease movement area (Caloundra to the NSW border, west to Ipswich). Raw prawns, saltwater yabbies and marine worms (bloodworms, beach worms, wrigglers) must not leave the area unless cooked first. Freezing does not kill the virus. Clean your gear and boat if you leave the area. Mud crabs and blue swimmer crabs are exempt from the movement rule.

Prawn farms: Special rules apply near prawn farms at Alberton, Steiglitz, Norwell, Woongoolba, Stapylton and other areas nearby. No line fishing in prawn farm drainage or intake channels, or within 100m of an intake or outlet channel. Crab pots, cast nets and yabby pumps are OK unless signs say otherwise. Read the signs.

Shellfish: Bivalves and sea snails (except pipis) are no take in Moreton Bay Marine Park and in all tidal waters that flow into it.

Emergency: 000. On the water: VHF Channel 16.

Landbased

  • Pontoons are the easy way in: Logan City Council has fishing pontoons at Albert River Park (Eagleby), Alexander Clark Park (Loganholme), Logan River Parklands (Eagleby and Beenleigh), Riedel Park and Skinners Park (Carbrook) and Riverdale Park (Meadowbrook). They have seats and bins for old line and tackle.
  • Riverbank spots: Federation Drive Reserve (Bethania), Larry Storey Park (Waterford), Lawrence Park on Wharf Road (Eagleby) and Tansey Park (Tanah Merah) have tackle bins and fish cleaning stations.
  • Yatala platform: Under the M1 bridge on the Albert River, off the Old Pacific Highway. Council says the last of the run up and the run out are the best tides, on a light estuary rod with 2 to 4kg line.
  • Skip the park lakes: Council has seen blue-green algae in the Tygum Park waterbody at Waterford West and says not to touch that water.
  • Emergency: 000. On the water: VHF Channel 16.

Offshore

  • River boating: Public ramps (Maritime Safety Queensland list) include Alberton Road (Alberton), Skinners Road and Riedel Road (Carbrook), River Hills Road beside the M1 bridge (Eagleby), Albert River Park (Eagleby), Patterson Road (Yatala, on the Albert), Tansey Drive (Tanah Merah), Federation Drive (Bethania), Larry Storey Park (Waterford) and Henderson Road (Logan Reserve). MSQ lists the Eagleby River Hills Road and Logan Reserve ramps as restricted at low tide.
  • Speed: Boats must keep to 6 knots within 30m of anchored or moored boats, jetties, pontoons, boat ramps and people in the water. Jet skis must keep to 6 knots within 60m. Watch for posted speed signs too.
  • Marine rescue: MRQ Jacobs Well covers the Logan and Albert rivers and is staffed 24 hours. Log on and off on VHF 82 or phone (07) 5546 1100.
  • Heading out to the bay: Past the mouth you enter the Moreton Bay Marine Park. See our Cabbage Tree Point and Jumpinpin pages for zones and the Jumpinpin Bar.

Hot Spots

  • Albert River Park, Eagleby: Council park with a fishing pontoon and a boat ramp (Ramu Street), plus a second pontoon off Distillery Road. Fishing tackle bin on site.
  • Yatala fishing platform (Albert River): Timber platform in the Albert River Parklands, under the M1 bridge, just downstream of the railway bridge. Council says to cast near the eddies behind the bridge piers.
  • Logan River Parklands, Eagleby and Beenleigh: Council parkland with a fishing pontoon and a tackle bin.
  • Alexander Clark Park, Loganholme: Three council pontoons off Dewar Drive.
  • Skinners Park, Carbrook: North bank of the Logan, with a pontoon and a boat ramp off Skinners Road.
  • Riedel Park, Carbrook: Pontoon, floating walkway and boat ramp off Riedel Road.
  • Riverdale Park, Meadowbrook: Council fishing pontoon.
  • Bank fishing spots: Council has tackle bins and fish cleaning stations at Federation Drive Reserve (Bethania), Larry Storey Park (Waterford), Lawrence Park on Wharf Road (Eagleby) and Tansey Park (Tanah Merah).

Local Bait Tips

  • Council's tip for the Yatala platform is yabbies, prawns and mud worms. Remember the white spot rule: raw prawns, yabbies and worms can't be taken out of the area unless cooked, and freezing doesn't count. Logan City Council asks fishos not to use opera house (funnel) traps, because they drown platypus, water rats and turtles. Use a drop net or an open-top pyramid trap instead.

Boat Ramps

  • Alberton Road Boat Ramp:

Located at Alberton Road in Alberton, this reinforced concrete ramp features an adjacent pontoon structure, providing upper-estuarine access.
