Fishing Jacobs Well
Tidal flows are extremely strong through the lower reaches, pushing clean oceanic water past the Pimpama mouth and flooding the expansive upstream sand flats and mangrove channels. Seasonal shifts bring a diverse range of target species, with winter welcoming outstanding yellowfin bream, tailor, and schooling Mulloway, while summer triggers explosive mangrove jack, giant trevally, and blue swimmer crab action. Flathead and sand whiting remain highly consistent year-round residents, shifting their feeding positions along the drop-offs in response to the changing lunar cycles.
Land-based anglers are incredibly well catered for with extensive parklands, boardwalks, and public fishing platforms along the waterfront. Wading the shallow flats surrounding the swimming enclosure on a falling tide is a highly productive way to target trophy whiting and flathead on light tackle. Anglers must exercise extreme caution when wading near the main channels, as deep drop-offs and fast-flowing currents can easily sweep a footing away.
For boat and kayak anglers, the deep current lanes, bridge pylons, and rocky revetment walls provide endless tactical options. Navigating the canal entrances and current seams requires a high-quality fishfinder to locate the baitfish schools pushed up against the stone structures. The deep-water junctions drop to over ten meters, holding schooling Mulloway that feed aggressively during the brief slack water high tide window.
Rules check: the water off the Jacobs Well jetty and boat ramp is a general use zone in the Moreton Bay Marine Park. The nearest green zones (no fishing) are McCoys Creek, Cobby Cobby Island and Swan Bay-Never Never Creek. Prawn farms operate near Jacobs Well and Pimpama, so you can't line fish in a farm's intake or drainage channels, or within 100m of any intake or outlet channel. - Pimpama River Rocks: Wading the shallow mudbanks near the river branches on a rising tide is productive. Cast unweighted baits of local prawns tightly against the overhanging mangrove roots. Focus on the small sand ridges where baitfish gather.

- Dinner Island Channels: Troll deep-diving hardbody minnow lures parallel to the mangrove-lined channel edges at three knots. Select lures that dive to three meters to bounce along the muddy bottom transition. This is a highly effective tactic for targeting active summer flathead.
- Calypso Bay Entrance: Cast small soft plastics on quarter-ounce jig heads parallel to the canal entrance shadow lines. Work the lure with a fast, erratic hopping retrieve to trigger aggressive strikes from giant trevally. Target the twilight periods of dawn and dusk.

- Colman Road Boat Ramp, Coomera:
Located at Colman Road in Coomera, this concrete ramp requires operators to beach vessels on rocky shorelines. Features include 20+ unmarked CTU spaces, but the facility suffers from a steep approach, a narrow single turning bay, and no integrated public jetty or pontoon, making it hazardous for larger tow rigs.

Located at Cabbage Tree Point Road in Steiglitz, this three-lane concrete ramp is very open to weather and choppy with a strong tidal side current. Features include a sandy beach, 18 CTU spaces, dedicated trailer parking for 30 vehicles, wide maneuvering zone, and no concrete walkway.
- Pinnaroo Street Boat Ramp, Santa Barbara:
Located at Pinnaroo Street in Santa Barbara, this wide concrete boat ramp features a sandy beach along the foreshore at lower tides. It is directly exposed to severe wake wash from high-speed water ski boats posing a risk of hull damage and trailer destabilization. Features include a large grassy turning zone, ample trailer turning circles, playground, barbecue amenities, and easy parking.
