The harbour basin is fully sheltered from Southern Ocean swells by heavy rock breakwaters, though care is required when navigating the dredge-maintained entrance channel during low astronomical tides. Facilities include extensive sealed car-trailer parking bays with unsealed overflow areas, public toilets, shaded picnic shelters, fish cleaning tables with running water, night lighting, and CCTV security monitoring. No municipal ramp launch fees required.
